Learning Disabilities Associations within Peel Region

 
SKILL BUILDERS SUMMER SUPPORT PROGRAM
 

Our summer program offer very low ratios, highly trained staff, experienced volunteer assistants and specialized curriculum.

 

Our camps are designed specifically for students with learning disabilities and/or attention deficit disorders.

REGISTRATION FEE

 

$ 200 per week / per student for LDA members

$ 225 per week / per student for non-members 

 

Tax receipts will be provided for registration fees.

CAMP FORMAT

 

Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

 

Choose one of the following programs:

 

Brain Builders: A half-day program that aims to enhance participant’s academic skills and strategies.

 

Program components include:

  • Keyboarding Training
  • Computer Mastery
  • Science & Technology Program
  • Organizational Skills and Study Strategies

Esteem Builders: A half-day program that aims to enhance participant’s social and behavioural skills.

 

Program topics include:

  • Perceiving and expressing emotion
  • Controlling impulsivity
  •  Friendship making and maintenance
  • Conflict resolution
  • Co-operation 
  •  Respect 
  •  Self-esteem & self image
  • social problem solving skills 
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Friendship making & maintenance
  • Manners & social etiquette
  • Bullying & victimization

In each program, participants benefit from a small student/instructor ratio that ensures a high level of attention to their individual needs.

Instructors balance individual attention with a focus on the importance of group interaction and integration.

 

 

Lunch Time:  12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Students to bring their own lunch)

 

 

Afternoon Session: 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 

Students of our Brain Builders and Esteem Builders programs are integrated into one group in the afternoons for a recreational, social, fun based summer camp.

 

 

Special activities and excursions are planned for each week. Swimming activities are held every Tuesday and Thursday and typically, full day excursions occur on Wednesdays. (weather dependant). Please call for more details.
