Academic Tutoring Program

 

Ages: K – Gr.12

 

Fee: $300 LDA members / $325 non-members

 

Class Time: Sessions are individually scheduled Monday through Saturday to meet the needs of both students and tutors.

Location: 165 Dundas St. West, Suite 400, Mississauga, On.

 

Registration Details: Ongoing intake. Late enrolment in this program is always welcome. Registration fee will be adjusted accordingly. End date is non-negotiable.

Program Format:

  • Participants register for a 12-week course. Late enrolments are accepted, but end date is non-negotiable.
  • Particpants will recieve a 1 hour, one-on-one session per week with a qualified tutor + the opportunity to attend our Tuesday afternoon Homework Club from 4 pm - 6 pm to recieve assistance from trained volunteer.

Program Delivery may include (based on individual needs):

  • Specific assistance in identified subject (i.e. math skills)
  • Identification of individual learning styles (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic etc.)
  • Development of organizational and concentration skills and learning strategies
  • Access to resources (educational games, books, videos, audio-tapes etc.)
  • Use of computer lab equipped with internet access and word processing to complete school assignments and projects
  • Computer assisted learning (educational software and tutorials)
  • Keyboarding Instruction & Support (finger placement, speed, accuracy)
  • Skills to empower and encourage the student to advocate for themselves

      

What can parents expect from an LDA Tutor?

  • Assist your child with development and reinforcement of skills
  • Help your child organize their projects, speeches, and essays
  • Help your child know how to learn best
  • Assist your child in strengthening their study skills
  • Assist your child in using his/her learning style to the fullest
  • Help your child be more successful academically and thus raise their self-esteem
  • Provide practice in the necessary skill areas

Who is eligible?


Our individualized tutoring program is for elementary and high school students who require individual assistance.

 

Although developed specifically for students with learning disabilities and/or attention disorders, registration is open to all students experiencing learning challenges. Formal diagnosis is not required.

 

 

 
 
Meet our Tutors

 

Ludmila (Ludka) Kosciuch, our Summer Support Academic Program Coordinator and Math Tutor, has been with LDA since November 2002. Ludka holds a Masters Degree in the Specialization of Pedagogy and Special Education.  Ludka has ten years experience working on a one to one basis with children who have math difficulties. Having worked with children and teenagers in integrated schools in regular mainstream classrooms and with those who are learning and developmentally challenged. Ludka is additionally fully  trained in Mastery Academy's PACE and MAML programs.
